What are cookies?A cookie is a file that is downloaded to your computer when you access certain web pages. Cookies allow web pages, among others, to store and retrieve information about the browsing habits of a user or his/her equipment and, depending on the information they contain and the way he/she uses the equipment, they can be used to recognize the user.
Types of Cookies
Depending on the entity that manages the domain from where the cookies are sent and the data obtained is processed, two types can be distinguished: first-party and third-party cookies.
There is a second classification depending on the period of time they remain stored on the client's browser, which may be session cookies or persistent cookies.
Finally, there is another classification with five types of cookies according to the purpose for which the collected data are processed: technical cookies, personalization cookies, analysis cookies, advertising cookies and behavioural advertising cookies.
Technical Cookies: They allow the user to navigate through a web page, platform or application and to use the different options or services they offer, such as, for example, controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing to restricted access areas, remembering the elements that make up an order, carrying out the process of making an order, making the request for registration or participation in an event, using security elements while browsing, storing content for the dissemination of videos or sound, or sharing content through social networks.
Personalization Cookies: They allow the user to access the service with some predefined general characteristics based on some criteria in the user's terminal, such as the language, the type of browser through which the service is accessed, the regional configuration from where the service is accessed, etc.
Analysis Cookies: They allow the person responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of the users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of the website, application or platform, and to create navigation profiles of the users of these sites, applications and platforms, in order to make improvements based on the data of the use made by the service users.
Advertising Cookies: They allow the management, in the most efficient way possible, of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included in a web page, application or platform from which the requested service is provided based on criteria such as content edited or how often the ads are shown.
Behavioural Advertising Cookies: They store information about the behaviour of users collected through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows the development of a specific profile to display advertising based on it.
